Northern Sweden

My first ever visit to northern Sweden took place this past weekend. Maria was working in Sollefteå for 2 weeks so I took a cheap flight to visit and have a closer look at the northern part of our country. An interesting weekend with something of a japan tour around the coastline. Passing over the Höga Kusten Bron(the High Coast Bridge) one of the longest hanging bridges in the world was nice and it was nice to see the really big rivers. not as dark and not as much forest as I had expected. But compared to the big city it is very deserted and not much is open. much is closing down and a lot of young people are moving south. a sad feeling lingers over the whole area

Got home from work and found my car brooken into. smashed side window and the car full of glass.
Nothing really valuable stolen but a real pain in the as with the time this will take to sort.
you would have thought the car was safe in a locked garage under your appartment.

Have spent the weekend looking for a house or an appartment in Languedoc in France. Have seen a lot of objects and the thoughts we had when we went here and the thoughts we had after the first day were quite different. The thoughts after the second day was again different from yesterday. We have now made a short list and have now made an offer on 2 townhouses in villages 20 min from the coast. Both in good shape and one is completely ready except for the couloring inside. The intention was to find a starting point but I think we ended up with places were we can actually see us living in the future. 14 golfcourses in the area and wine as far as you can see.

ave spent some days with a collegue in Denmark and saw som efunny things I need to share.
Are the houses from som deserted part of old russia? no they are part of the new exclusive restauration of the southern harbour in Copenhagen. Do the 2 old Volvos come from a museum in Göteborg-no they were actually parked on the street outside of Carlsberg offices. Do people smoke in Denmark-of course they do.

Spa weekend Stenungsbaden Yacht Club

Had an ivitation to spend a spa weekend at the Stenungsbaden Yacht Club and spent the whole afternoon having a massage, and floating around in the pool. the evening included dining and dancing in the restaurant. On the whole a very relaxing experience.

The days go by by the pool and noy much happens, Living close to the airport gives you some nice photo opportunities and we cought one just taking off. Also made a visit to the huge Marriot hotel at the other side of the island. Like entering another world. Nice bar at the top and a great view of the big ship leaving the docks. We also bought the most expensive yogurts 4 dollars each!! The day ended with pizza on the beach.

So we spent another new year on a foreign shore, the intended beach dinner was cancelled because of a rainstorm. Spent it indors watching the celebrations in New York and drinking several bottles of sparkling. The weather is now back to the usual sunny version and we are getting discustingly sunburned. We have also found a new fenomenon in the harbours, HUGE yachts that are rented instead of owned, going rate is 500000 Dollars up to 1.000.000 Dollars PER WEEK!!! on top you have to pay for diesel and tips to the crew The biggest and most famous is KISMET which actually has a yachtspotting follower list. Tried the nabouring restaurant last night and found ourselves listening to an old coverband playing blues fro the 60 and 70.

The days seem to go by one like the other , walk the beach, breakfast, sun and swim by the pool, margaritas by the bar and a nice dinner. We found new place in town called Green Garden where we celebrated the 1 year anniversary of Ann and Tomas wedding. Today we have had a rainstorm for most of the day and we spent the morning sightseeing in town abd the afternoon shopping around the malls. 3 shirts for me and jewelry and grey Converse for Maria. It is supposed to break up tonigt so maybe there will be margaritas at the bar. A good thing to be in an American hotel-you can actually watch TV and understand it!

Not much really happening on the island these days, the weather is continues nice and warm and we spend our days by the poolside enhancing our suntan , watching the flock of pelicans practising their diving/fising technique and in the afternoons we do the occational shopping. last night we even ordered pizza delivery to change some of the routine,

Christmas Eve-Julafton

So again we celebrate christmas on a warm beach instead of the cold north. The morning being rainy we decided to go shopping in Charlotte Amelie and actually found som nice quarters in the old town. Apart from this the island is very worn down and the difference between the rich areas around the port and the rest of the island is huge. As this is an expensive island the mixture with high end hotels and really bad service is apalling. We all bought new watches(except Maria) and we had our, nowadays traditional, frozen Margurita at 3 a´clock. had a very nice meal consisting of Maki-Maki fish in cajun style and a very nice Pinot Griglio.

Second day on St Thomas

Started with rain and wind but turned out to be as nice as before. Started to walk the beach and having an early swim before breakfast. All to get into even better shape. Spent som time by the pool burning new areas of the body. After lunch we headead for the highest point of the island called Drakes point, presumably whwre he sat scanning the waters for pirates or hostile fleets.

Checked the port at Red Hook and found a new grocery store. Ended the outing in a gigantic traffic jam that seamed to cover half the island.

Waking up after a 10 hour sleep was really good. Spent the morning by the poole getting too much sun. Went to the airport to rent a car, the last one avaible!. Got a Toyota RAW4 wich was ok. took a ride into Charlotte Amelie, that turned out to be really congested by traffic. There were 4 big cruiserships in the harbour, among them the new gigant one built in Finland and now the biggest on the seas. Ended the day with a very nice dinner at the sister hotel across.

First day on the hollidays

Started the winterhollidays with a flight to New York landing in a very very cold and snowy city late at night, We spent the first night at an airporthotell getting out of the clothes for 4 hours.

Nice fligt to St Thomas in the morning where we landed at 1 in the afternoon. 30 degrees warm and a bazing sun!!. No room ready so we spent the first hours in the sister hotell eating sallad and drinking bear.

Dec 19 and we are having Christopher and sara her for a day before we leave for the carribian. traditional shrimpsandwich at the Gothia towers and a stroll around town. Ther are som e people locked into a glass cage on the Aveny collecting money to fight malaria in Africa. They have been locked up for 10 days and have got together close to 3 million swedish.

Finally after trying since the beginning of spring the boat is at the port in Göteborg. It took a 5 hour drive with 3 petrolfilling to get here. The weather could have ben better but we had no rain and the wind kept faily calm. Stopped on Marstrand to have a lunch.

Found this man sitting in a big red armchair right in the middle of Go:teborg harbour. He looked very relaxed reading a book and enjoying the sunshine. How he got there and why, I do not know, but it is an interesting picture. Please also notice the new spelling,design of the citys name. Italy july 2009

A beautiful summer week in Italy. Flew to Rome via Copenhagen on a 2 hour flight!?. Got somewhat fooled by the car rental agenzia, some italian company, found our Fiat Punto a nice and comfortable car for its size. Drove to a very strange place called Castell Volturno, with a completely abandoned seaside resort, just left to fall apart. Went to Pompei to see the burried town that was dug out. Amazing high standard of living for being 2000 years old. Went to Sorrento and a very nice Best western hotel called La Perle where we met up with the newly wedded couple from home.

We have spent some nice time in the sun and on nice restaurants. Today we took the boat to Positano, a very nice litle town on the south side of the peninsula. Also a very warm day and we spent the afternoon sleping by the pool.

Midsummer wedding

The third wedding this year turned out to be a relly nice event covering the whole of the midsummer weekend. The place was Lysvik, an A-typical swedish small place on a beautiful lake.

We spent midsummer evening with new friends fighting away the rain with a nice barbeque.

Most of the day on midsummers day was spent preparing for the wedding and at 16.00 the marrying couple entered the church to become husband and whife. The festivities lasted all night and we watched the sun go up before we went to bed. A lot of really nice people and hopefully they will be among our friends in the future.

As for the married couple I am glad to call them my friends and neighbours and we will see each other later on in Italy. All the best for the future!

Another one of these lazy saturdays just strolling along the city(not quite true as maria was shopping for a dress for the wedding), but still , I found the biggest buns and cakes I have ever seen, and it turns out to be a well known fact, at a café in Haga. Saturday 18:th of april and I think we have set a new record for the Göteborg City Walkers. We today walked from home in the harbour to the sailing harbour at Långedrag. It took us the better part of 4 hours and some 28000 steps acc to the stepcounter. Nice weather but very windy at times

Today were the trials for this years Swedish Idol with the first audition in Göteborg. A huge numbre of young people gathered at Eriksberg to get the chance. Some of them started queing last night. Will be fun to watch on TV in the autumn.

A long, long time ago a man called Sven Lundin set out to build a small sailing boat in the basement of his parents hous. As he had to be able to get it out throught the basement entrance he kept it really small and made it in two halves. This was an achivment in itself. He then set sail and sailed it AROUND THE WORLD! He even stopped and worked as a teacher on Tristan da Cuna for some time (the most isolated island on the whole planet) He actually came back to Göteborg and started building BRIS 2, a slightly bigger vessel, and sailed that for some time. Imagine my surprice when I found BRIS 1 in a roadcrossing just outside of Lysekil today. The mysterious ways history moves. Beginning of february is the time for the yearly boatexhibition in Göteborg and the start of the spring. Today also a blazing sun but zero temerature. Took our nabour to look for a boat as the have a jetty but nothing to ancor there. A very nice but short visit due to a very heavy cold on my part.

Saturday 17 january and we set off on a long walk around the harbour of Göteborg, crossing both bridges and strolling around a great part of the city centre. Had time for a visist at the Gyllstedt/Hansby appartment in town and a very nice lunchbreak in Haga. Total time including the break was 4.5 hour. estimated distance to be somewhere between 15 to 20 km.

In the afternoon we went to The Marriott for drinks and to watch the Luaho, finally some strawskirts an coconuts. 2 and 3 of january we went whalewhatching. on the second from a boatcruise and on the third we saw them from our beach. There are supposed to be something like 7500 Humpbackwhales in the basin outside of Maui. Huge animals up to 15 m and 45 tons.

A new and interesting experience with half of Maui on the beach all evening shooting crackers and having a really good time. We had our picknic and bubbles and everybody enjoyed the evening.

Fun to hear the different timezones being counted down. We also recognised the extra second that

was added at midnight to keep the time right.

New Years eve 2008

What a way to celebrate new year! On the beach in blazing sun! This will be our cup of tea! the morning started with rain for breakfast so we set out to do some cruising but stopped to look at a local boatrace and some surfers that we saw for the first time. As the sun appeared again we returned to the beach for a long day in the sun. We are now getting ready for a picknick on the beach to celebrate the new year and to look at the local fireworks

Climbing the Vulcano

Dec 30 and rain again. We set out to drive to the top of the vulcano Haleakala up to 10023 feet roughly equaling 3000 m. Nice road but very winding and a lot of hairneedlecorners. Took the first turn wrong but it took us to a vinery up in the mountains where we had some tasting and even bought some specialities. Found the way to the top and had some amazing views along the way. Just when we were passing 9000 feet the rain started and when we were at the top it was difficult to see the road at times. Being high up the weather changed quickly and the next minute you could see the observatory at the top. Having done what we came for we went back down and stopped for lunch before we went to the cowboy town of Makawau. Tonight we are planning to eat tai and celebrate Joakims birthday.

Today monday the 29.th of december, the birthday of Christopher, we had a wedding ceremony at the Lazy beach of Maui( home of Clint Eastwood and Tiger Woods) between Ann Lejon and Thomas Andersson. A beautiful ceremony on the beach in the sunset. All followed by a very good dinner at the Five Palms restaurant

December 28 and we had to take some photoes of the breakfast. In front of us at the breakfast was an Italian couple and they started to joke about the American Breakfast, not much to write home about if you are used to the european breakfast. In this case a bagel, some juice, strawberry jam, chees in plastic and if you are lucky yoghurt and coffe. A picture of the really clear water and in the afternoon shopping for a bikini. In the evening a picknick on the beach wich turned out very nice with champagne and a nice italian sallad

Woke to a heavy rain beating the roof and realized it is actually winter on Maui. Sorted some mails and took the car for a visit to a huge shopping center just outside Kahului. Massive shopping from the Andersson/Lejon party. Japanese lunch and a stop on the way home to get groseries(beer and water) at WallMart. The most unorganized place I have ever seen. Makes Italy look overly oranized. On return to the hotell the sun returned at we had some sparkling wine on the porch

Christmas Day 25 dec

And again we have a beautiful day. Powerwalking in the morningl, quick swim and breakfast and off to the airport with a shuttlebuss to pick up 2 rental cars: a Toyota Corolla for Joakim and Rebecca and a Chrysler Sebring for us to be able to handle the luggage going back to the airport.

After a quick lunch we headed for Lahaina and a stop at hard Rock Café for a few beers and a couple of T-shirts. Also bought a bunch of T-shirts and hawaian shirts. Dinner at a Mexican restaurant down the road. Theday ended with beers at Joakim and Rebeccas new terass, they have moved to the only room with their own balcony. had som light rain as a change but only for a few minutes. Trying to stay up a little later today to get prepared for new years eve

Christmas 2008

Experiancing the first christmas evening in the blazing sunshine at Maui was a really nice experiance. A couple of hours on the beach, a nice lunch and then we went for drinks at the bar.

Happy hour between 3 and 6 was an interesting substitute for Donald Duck on TV and a swedish Christmas dinner with herring and meatballs. We settled for frozen margaritas and martinis and raw tuna.

Decembre 23 in paradize

Decembre 23:rd started with a powerwalk along the beaches soth of the hotel Really nice seing the sun rice over the islands.Walked fast and long enough to get some blisters under my heels and this will put a stop to powerwalking for a few days. Sunning and swinning as usual for a couple of hours, we are really getting suntanned already, Light lunch on the porch and intended to take the bus to a shopping centre. Bus late so we walked. Finally bought the long sought after Hawaiian really laud shirt, Hawaian swimming trunks. Walked back as the bus never showed and we found no busstops.

Hard on my feet but a beautiful walk. Drinks on the porch and another night with Sushi at the bar

After a long walk to get some groceries in the "nearby" Foodland we took the local bus back to the hotel and decided to take a beer and a glass of wine at our porch, experiencing the first Maui Sunset. Spectacular and SHORT!

After a 32 hour travel via London and los Angeles did we arrive at Maui at midnight sunday night.
After all it went well and we could sleep some of the way. Went to bed and slept all through to 7 in the morning. A standing breakfast on the beach and a first swim in the pacific at 10 a´clock.
28 degrees in the air and 26 in the water is really ok. Have also had time for a nice lunch at the nearby hotel

Celeb weekend in Göteborg, one of the Microsoft founders are getting married to a Göteborg beauty(30 years younger) They arrived on the grey yacht and among the guests are Mick Jagger, Bill Gates and Prins Albert of Monaco, no wonder they close half the city!

Finally I got around to get a new small computer The new HP Mini is a really nice piece with an almoust normal keyboard, It will take some getting used to a PC again but so far it works well and the Windows Vista has some relationship to the Mac OS

After the rock´n´roll weekend it was time for a more relaxed cultural weekend in Göteborg. Being the first days in Novembre the weathet was great and we had lovely sunshine . Took the boat into town and after a long walk had lunch at the Världskulturmuseet. Saw some intersting exhibitions and had a long walk back across town. Also sunday was spent walking in the sun.
Also had a quick visit to bauhaus to find a new way to decorate your christmas tree. Also had time to drive up on Ramberget to look down on our living area. Last time we went here ther was remnats of the old shipyards and a salt & cole harbour

Beatle weekend in Karlstad

After Maria spent month of planing it finally happened The Beatle weekend in Karlstad.
friday night at Nöjesfabriken with bands like Pepperland and Overtures playing 60Th hits, then saturday with a covention, many speches and to top it off the Pete Best Band playing good old rock´n´roll. Great people all of them and also interesting to meet a man like Sam Leich who started the hole Merybeat era in Liverpool.

Saturday 11 october 2009 and we are checking our calanders to syncronize. Looking forward to oct 12:th ther is a note about Leonard Cohen!? Completely forgotten the tickets to this concert, would have been interesting to read the review on monday morning and by then remembering the tickets!
All well as we found out in time, even our neighbours got hold of some tickets so we made a small party out of it all. Let me say it straight away, this was the best consert I have ever been to, not that I can remember them all, but it was really good. Excellent mucisions, absolutely perfect sound, you could actually hear all the lyrics! And Leonard Cohen,, what can you say, Not the graetest performer but he kept the consert and the intrest going for well over 3 hours! and he is 74!!

Götheborg comes home to Göteborg

The replica 18:th century ship Götheborg today returned to the home harbour after sailing around the baltic sea. Giving 8 shots really made her apperance known, alt felt.
As the speaker said, it is impossible to build a ship like this, and they sailed it to China and back!

Planen var en tripp till Grundsund för lunch på bryggan och sedan en tur genom Malö strömmar. Allt höll på att gå åt pipan då båten vägrade starta. Ringde Nordic Marin som hade en service tekniker på plats efter 15 minuter. Nytt batteri löste problemet och vi drog iväg. Lite skumpigt utanför Stångehuvud annars rätt lugnt och soligt. Åt räkmacka och drack öl på Pelles Rökeri & Restaurang.Solen bröt igenom de envetna dimmolnen och vi gled i sakta mak genom Malö strömmar med ett stopp för tankning på Bassholmens varv. Tog vägen hem via norra hamnen i Lysekil för att återlämna lånat extra batteri, men då vi testade ville inte vårt batteri fungera, så det blir till att köpa en ny batteriladdare

Luzern to Frankfurt

friday the 18:th and we left Luzern for the trip north. Headed for Alsace to buy some more wine.
had a nice lunch in Riquwire and bought some wine at a winery in Zellenberg. Tested both Riesling and Muscat and bought both. Drove to Bad Nauheim for the last night in Germany. The restaurant was closed so we had a meal in the bar, and lo nad behold, a perfect carpatio on salmon and 3 perfect schnitzel,wierner art, ended another good day.

have just arrived in Luzern in rain and just 14 degrees celsius. Have spent some days in Nice in nice summer weather sunbathing and swinning in the mediteranean. Very nice meals at he local bistros and also taking a short trip to Cannes to look at the spectacle of the Croisette. Drove to Provance to have a very nice lunch at the Cafe de la Poste in Goult and managed a short visit to Bertil and Arne for a glass of rose. Spent the night in Cavaillon at the Ibis, a very surpisingly nice visit, nice pool and a nice bar . Hav enow had a long drive up through eastern france to stop over night at Ediths place in Luzern.
